IE Singapore and China’s Nanjing government yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct feasibility studies on a proposed eco high-tech city in Nanjing.
Commercially led by Yanlord Land Group, Surbana Corporation and Sembcorp Industries, the proposed three to five sq km development is an initiative of the Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council, chaired by Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan and Jiangsu Province’s Communist Party secretary Liang Baohua.
Its second council meeting was held here yesterday morning. Among 19 other agreements, signed on the sidelines of the council meeting, was a proposed tie-up between Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and Nantong authorities to develop a 40 sq km industrial zone and township. SIP has been an anchor for Singapore-Jiangsu collaboration.
Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan, one of the council’s vice-chairmen, noted that 16 of the 20 MOUs signed yesterday were for projects outside of Suzhou.
Highlighting Hyflux’s wastewater treatment and IMC’s port terminal and logistics projects in Lianyungang in northern Jiangsu, he said that they ‘mark a geographical diversification in Singapore companies’ investment activities, beyond cities south of the Yangtze River’.
Singapore-Jiangsu bilateral trade grew 15.11 per cent in the first nine months of this year, as trade between Singapore and China grew a slower 4.8 per cent.
